Rainbow Giraffe Education

Hello, I’m Louisa – a dedicated and fully qualified primary school teacher and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCO) with over 10 years of experience supporting children, families, and schools.

My interest in SEN and dyslexia began when I first started teaching. I noticed that some children found reading, spelling, and memory particularly challenging, yet they were often incredibly creative or exceptionally strong problem solvers. Their brains worked differently – and in the most remarkable ways. Wanting to understand these learners better, and to support them more effectively, set me on a clear path towards specialising in dyslexia and specific learning difficulties.

I am a Level 7 qualified Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) assessor, specialising in dyslexia, and a Level 5 qualified specialist teacher in literacy. I hold a current Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) and am a proud member of the British Dyslexia Association. I am also fully insured, holding both professional and public liability insurance.

Alongside my professional work, I am a parent to two neurodiverse children who experience a range of challenges at school. I also have ADHD myself, which gives me a deeply personal understanding of how different learning profiles can affect confidence, wellbeing, and day-to-day school life. This lived experience strongly informs the empathy, insight, and practical support I bring to my work with children and families.

I believe it is vital to stay current and closely connected to the realities of school life. For this reason, I continue to work in the classroom and as a SENDCO, ensuring my practice remains informed, practical, and responsive to the pressures schools face when meeting a wide range of SEN needs.

I am passionate about helping children understand how they learn, recognise their strengths, and build confidence – ensuring that differences are recognised not as barriers, but as powerful and unique ways of thinking.

What Makes

Rainbow Giraffe Different

Level 7 Qualified

I undertook my Level 7 qualification in Dyslexia Assessment and Intervention, with the British Dyslexia Association. This qualification means that as a dyslexia assessor I hold a postgraduate-level qualification aligned with master’s degree standards. It demonstrates my advanced expertise in dyslexia, assessment theory, and evidence-based practice. As a Level 7 assessor I am trained to carry out comprehensive diagnostic assessments, produce clear, legally robust reports, and make informed recommendations that meet professional, educational, and workplace requirements with confidence and credibility. For my final independently written report I received the following feedback “Just wow! This report is one of the highest quality reports I have read whilst tutoring on this course. You have worked so hard on this course, and it has been a pleasure to see you develop into a very confident and competent assessor-any learner who is assessed by you is lucky!”

APC Certified

(Assessment Practising Certificate)

Holding an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) issued by the British Dyslexia Association, confirms that I am qualified, supervised, and professionally accountable to carry out diagnostic assessments. It shows that I meet recognised professional standards, engage in ongoing training, and follow ethical guidelines. Holding an APC means my assessments are trusted, current, and accepted by schools, colleges, universities, and employers, giving clients confidence in the accuracy and validity of my work.

Professional Member of The British Dyslexia Association

As an Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA), I have achieved an accredited qualification in specialist dyslexia assessment that is recognised by the British Dyslexia Association. This demonstrates my advanced training, practical experience, and commitment to professional standards. AMBDA status confirms that I am qualified to assess for dyslexia and produce high-quality reports that are widely accepted across education and the workplace.

Fully insured

I hold professional indemnity insurance and public liability insurance which means I am fully covered to practise safely and responsibly. These policies protect both my clients and me, ensuring that my assessments and services meet professional expectations. They provide reassurance that, in the unlikely event of an issue, appropriate safeguards are in place, reflecting my commitment to professionalism, accountability, and best practice.
